I’m sure you’re aware that Nokia unveiled a behemoth of a cameraphone today, the Nokia 808 PureView model, detailed here among the many new handsets from the Finns. Well, this 41 megapixel camera device was available at Nokia’s booth for fondling and presentation and courtesy of our editor in Barcelona, Zsolt, also reporting for Mobilissimo.ro we grabbed some hands on time with the best cameraphone ever. Don’t forget to check out our GALLERY at the bottom of the article!

This model is seen as the successor to the N8, but it’s much more than that… it’s an evolution of the entire cameraphone market. The device uses high performance Carl Zeiss optics, a 41 megapixel sensor with PureView technology, that has many years of research behind it. The device offers impressive lossless zoom for stills and up 4x zoom in Full HD 1080p video capture, while 720p HD video gets 6x lossless zoom. The super high resolution sensor is to thank here, with an active area of 7728 x 5368 pixels, for a total of over 41MP.

And since this is still a phone and not only a camera, here are the specifications that the Nokia 808 PureView delivers:

  • Size: 13.9mm thickness, 169 grams
  • Display: 4 inch, 640 x 360 pixels, AMOLED, ClearBlack, Gorilla Glass
  • Memory: microSD, 16 GB internal, 1 GB ROM, 512 MB RAM
  • Connectivity: HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, WiFi, DLNA, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC, microUSB 2.0
  • Camera: 41MP, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Xenon flash, 1080p 30 fps video capture, front VGA camera
  • CPU: 1.3GHz, ARM11
  • Battery: Li-Ion 1400 mAh

The device runs Nokia Belle and it looks very nice in that coating of white. The screen seems a tad too reflective for my taste and that camera bulk is sure big, but photo enthusiasts will get over that. I can only dream and imagine what a Nokia Donna cameraphone will look and feel like… In the hands on video below, the camera becomes activated in less than a second, we’re shown the speed of the shutter and the idea of lossless zoom is explained, as we figure out that we get more than digital zoom. We have night settings, all sorts of Scene modes and much, much more!
