ASUS had a big conference today, focused on the announcement of its rebranded tablet series and the debut of the long awaited PadFone tablet/phone combo. Now, there are three tablets in the Transformer Pad series: ASUS Transformer Pad Prime, ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity and ASUS Transformer Pad 300 series. The first is the good old prime, with its quad core Tegra 3 CPU and 8MP camera, the second is the upgrade Prime with better display and the third is the more affordable Prime.
Transformer Pad Infinity Series is the highest end model of the newcomers with a 1920 x 1200 Full HD Super IPS+ display and ASUS SonicMaster technology. It will also have a 4G LTE version with a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon CPU, a dual core 1.5GHz Krait unit, while the WiFi only unit will get the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. There’s also a 2MP front camera in the mix and an 8MP cam at the back with large F2.2 aperture, 5 elements lens and LED flash.
The Transformer Pad 300 is an affordable version of the Prime, with a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 IPS display instead of the Super IPS+ plus of the first Tegra 3 tablet. The CPU and 8MP camera stay the same and you’ll have various colored options of this model, plus WiFi options and 4G LTE options. The battery life here is up to 10 hours, or 15 hours with the dock. And finally, the special guest was the ASUS PadFone, that’s 3 things in one: a phone, a tablet and a laptop.
ASUS PadFone is a 4.3 inch smartphone with a Super AMOLED HD display an Android 4.0. It also has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core processor, an 8 megapixel camera with Fuji image processor and it can be priced inside a 10.1 inch tablet for 5 times the battery capacity. The PadFone Station turns the whole thing into a laptop and there’s also a nifty accessory called the PadFone stylus headset, that serves both as stylus and headset to make calls from the device. Other features of the PadFone include an Adreno 225 GPU, 16 to 64 GB of storage, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, GPS, HSPA+ for up to 42Mbps speeds.
