Google’s latest platform version data is out, collected from the Android Market during the two weeks leading to November 1.  Most telling in the report is that 77-percent of Android smartphones are running either Android 2.1 (Eclair) or Android 2.2 (Froyo).  The breakdown of said 77-percent comes to 40.8-percent running Android 2.1 and 36.2-percent running the newer Android 2.2 release. A dwindling 15-percent of Android smartphones are still running Android 1.6, while just 7.9 percent are running Android 1.5.

Google has a second chart showing that Android 2.1 powered at least 25 percent of Android smartphones since May 2010. Android 2.2 began to see its jump in popularity between August and September, and both Android 1.6 and Android 1.5 have slowly become less and less prevalent as those smartphones have been updated to the newer software.
