Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play handset, a device meant for gamers has just been made available for pre-order by Verizon, with a price tag of 9.99. The device that we reviewed here runs Android 2.3, with a customized software layer on top of it, made by Sony Ericsson.

Under the hood there’s a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and upfront there’s a 4 inch display, but the real goodies are in the sliding part, that reveals gaming controls. There’s also a 5MP camera at the back with no zoom and lacking 720p video capture, but at least you get good hours of gaming from the handset, right?

The Xperia Play comes preloaded with Star Battalion, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, The Sims 3, FIFA 2010, Crash Bandicoot and Tetris. If you pre-order now, you’ll receive the phone by May 26th.
