It appears that not only the Nozomi handset from Sony Ericsson will be coming in the following months, but also two extra dual core models, the Aoba and Nypon. The latter interests me particular, since it’s based on the ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 system on chip solution, that’s demoed in the videos below.

The Nypon looks very much like the Nozomi, but it replaces the HD display with a qHD one and it also serves as a premiere, since it will be the first Xperia smartphone that doesn’t rely on Qualcomm chipset tech. Instead it will use the dual core ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 system on chip, that includes a 1GHZ Cortex A9 CPU and ARM Mali-400 MP1 GPU. Thanks to these, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich runs very easily and flawlessly, as shown in the vids right here.

The SoC solution offer support for 1080 progressive scan video recording, support for up to 20 megapixel camera sensors and HDMI out capabilities. I have to say that Android 4.0 seems to be behaving more nicely on the Sony Ericsson gear than what we’ve seen on the Galaxy Nexus, so that’s good news. Now, if only SE decided to make these dual core smartphones official before the year is out…
