The guys of Chevron are the ones responsible with the very first “jailbreak” of the Windows Phone platform and now they’re given an opportunity to put their experience to good use. It appears that the devs and Microsoft have come up with an official unlocking tool that will come soon.
The purpose of ChevronWP7 is to make development more accessible and they’ll release a solution soon with this use in mind. A small fee will be required, but that will be payable by PayPal and it’ll be much more affordable than the App Hub. Last we heard, Microsoft was even open to work with famous Sony and Apple hacker Geohot, promising him a free Windows Phone 7 handset.
At this rate, we might wake up one day with Microsoft being the most open company about third party software, ahead of Google and Apple.
