LG Display just took a major step in helping LG conquer the mobile market today, by announcing a 5 inch 1080p display, with incredible 440 ppi pixel density. This will make a killer screen for a Galaxy Note rival, maybe LG Optimus Vu 2, considering the diagonal of the new panel.
The new panel has a 16:9 aspect ratio and it’s designed with HD content in mind. It relies on Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS), said to provide wide viewing angles, fast response time and great brightness. It also consumes less power than its predecessors. LG is saying that the 5 inch 1080p panel will make it to production in the second half of the year, so by 2013 we might even see a 1080p screen smartphone. This means that the quality of your Full HD TVs will be brought to the 5 inch devices, so you’ll be able to forget all consoles and big screens and have the gaming of your life time on a tiny smartphone.
This model is 0.5 inches larger, 2.2 times denser in pixels and 1.3 times more advanced in ppi than its predecessor, a 4.5 inch panel at 329 ppi and 1280 x 720. I’m sure that Samsung has a Super AMOLED Plus panel with similar abilities ready to burst onto the market, since they won’t allow their biggest local rival to surpass them…
