Samsung just announced that it’s going to showcase a new type of PenTile display next week during the SID Display Week 2011. This screen might make it to the iPad 3, according to recent speculations, especially now that LG Display has decreased production of iPad screens after some quality problems.

The new Samsung screen supports a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, shows 300 dpi and it can be compared with the Retina Display on the iPhone 4. Another advantage of the PenTile technology is the fact that it uses up 40% less battery life than other rival displays. It’s unlikely that the display size will stay the same on the iPad 3, since Apple will probably continue using 9.7 inch panels, to keep the familiar format for the public.

Right now the PenTile screen is used on the Google Nexus One in an older version and it seems to have paid off, generating a quality device together with the other components. With Sharp supposedly making the iPhone 6 display, will Apple use their tech for the iPad as well, or go with Samsung?
