Google has just introduced its Docs app for Android, compatible with 2.1+ version phones. Although the software is supposedly specialized and very useful, it’s pretty hard to use, aside from the file explorer included. You can’t edit much in your document and even the text selection is difficult… at least these are our first impressions.

In theory, the new app is supposed to support content uploading straight from the phone and document opening from Gmail. There’s also a widget in the mix, available on the home screen, allowing you to easily access three main tasks: reaching starred documents, photo taking and new document creation.

The most impressive feat of the Google Docs app is turning photos into text, through optical character recognition (OCR). You can create a new “Document from Photo” and turn photos into editable text, provided that it’s in English for now. The new app is available here or by scanning the QR code below.
