WP Central has some insider news on the evolution of Windows Phone 8, reporting that the following can be resolutions of devices running the new OS: 480 x 640, 480 x 800, 720 x 1280 and 768 x 1280. Below you can see a comparison of the resolutions, in case you’re curios.

It would be nice to finally reach 720p on Windows Phone as well, since Android devices are already headed to the world of 1080p graphics, courtesy of LG. Notice the aspect ratio differences here, that actually point towards the different handset formats enabled by this OS. The VGA one is pretty strange and it brings in mind a portrait QWERTY device, one that Nokia would succeed in making, having experience in this field. Not quite sure what to make of the 1280 x 768…

Maybe it’s the resolution of a bigger device, something like 5 or even 7 inches? Anyway, this fall we’ll get to know more and see more diversified designs in the Windows Phone segment, that till now has only relied on full touch models and two or three sliding keyboard units.
