Visual Factor, maker of the new iCarpus portable device stand, sent me a demo unit  to review for AndroidGuys.com,  we are going to take a look at the device and see just how functional it is. The basic idea behind the device is fairly easy to understand. The device is used to hold your mobile phone or portable media player in either the vertical or horizontal position (this has some exceptions I’ll point out later) with or without a protective case! It is designed with non-slip edges to securely hold your media device. It can also function as a headphone caddy when not in use holding your device. The iCarpus is currently available in White, With plans to offer it in Graphite, Green and Pink in the fall, The white model is currently available for purchase for .99 from Visual Factor.

Features:

  • Horizontal or Vertical device positioning
  • Easy 3 Finger operation
  • Works on most portable devices with or without protective cases
  • Functions as a headphone caddy
  • Designed with non-slip edges for grip and stability

iCarpus is an accessory for hands-free viewing of portable devices. The ingenious compact design supports devices of ALL BRANDS, with or without third-party protective cases. Its firm grip enables horizontal and vertical positioning without adjustments. Non-slip edges provide superior protection and surface grip. Also functions as a headphone caddy.
Whether you use an Android™, Apple®,Blackberry® or Palm®, you love to personalize your device and protect it with a case that represents your style and personality. iCarpus understands your individuality and supports it!

For home, office, outdoors or on-the-go, the compact design of iCarpus allows you to take it everywhere. Place it in portrait or landscape position with no assembly, adjustment or aid of other objects.

So after taking a look at the iCarpus and using it for a few days I have come to the conclusion that at its price point of .99 its a pretty hard bargain to beat! It works really well under most circumstances.  As you will see in the photos and video there are some issues with phones and devices that are rounded on the bottom though only prevalent when in the vertical position and only on certain devices as you will see. I watched a couple of movies and a few TV episodes with no problems from the iCarpus, It’s stable on glass, wood and even plastic table cloths used outdoors on picnic tables. Personally I really enjoy it, I have been looking for a viable alternative to buying a full fledged desktop dock/cradle. The iCarpus comes with the added benefit of not being specific to a device. What is boils down to is would I recommend it, Without a doubt! For its price and how it performs its a great device for holding and securing your device while viewing media or even just charging while sitting on your desk. Be sure to check out the video to see it in action.
