The next big Adobe release after Flash 10.1 for Android mobile devices is the spanking new Adobe Air 2.5. The AIR 2.5 release is the latest great evolution of Adobe and their effort to create a multi-platform application environment. AIR employs the same skills that developers already have with Flash in order to construct applications for AIR across multiple types of devices.
“With the release of AIR 2.5, more than 3 million Flash developers can now build a single game or application and easily deploy it across multiple application stores and devices,” said David Wadhwani, senior vice president, Creative and Interactive Solutions Business
AIR 2.5 now enables more immersive user experience with support for both accelerometers and multi-touch gestures. Location based applications are now possible with AIR 2.5 with the inclusion of new geolocation support. Additionally, AIR applications have the potential to be more robust thanks to SQLite database support enabling developers to keep data inside of AIR applications.
What does this mean for all the Android users out there? More Apps, more games, more fun. With the inclusion ofAdobe Air Apps on and off the market smart phone users will have a bigger selection of applications for their devices.
*Note: The AIR 2.5 runtime and its associated SDK (Software Development Kit) is available today for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android users. BlackBerry users will have to wait until the Black Berry Playbook tablet device which will ship preloaded with AIR 2.5 to enjoy the Adobe goodness.
